Controlling CNC machines among metal chips and coolant
Metalworking is one of the harshest places for computer hardware. Chips, coolant and vibration destroy desktop PCs in months — and in a Gulf workshop the heat adds to it. This is how the IBOX series is used to solve it.
The challenge
Workshops that control CNC mills and lathes with standard desktop computers run into the same, expensive problems:
Oil mist and metal dust
Fans pull coolant and metal particles inside, shorting the motherboard.
Machine vibration
Constant vibration loosens RAM and SATA cables, causing random crashes and data loss.
No legacy ports
Modern desktops lack the RS-232/485 ports that older PLCs and CNC controllers need.
Unplanned downtime
Every hardware failure stops the line for hours while a replacement is found and set up.
The IWILL approach
An IBOX fanless box PC with an Intel Core processor, designed for factory automation:
Fully closed aluminium design
The whole body is the heatsink. No fans and no vents, so oil mist, chips and dust have no way in.
Vibration and shock resistance
No moving parts — no HDD, no fans. The M.2 SSD is fixed to the board, and on selected models the RAM is soldered.
Built-in RS-232/485 ports
Up to six serial ports for direct communication with the CNC controller, PLC modules and SCADA — no USB-serial adapters that drop out.
DIN-rail and wall mounting
A compact body with a DIN-rail clip fits in the electrical cabinet right next to the controller, shortening cable runs.
